Position Description: include determining initial/continuing eligibility of clients for income maintenance programs such as food assistance, medical services, temporary assistance, nutritional assistance, etc. according to federal/state standards. Interview clients, explain procedures and assist in completing application forms for programs, requiring extensive public contact in person and by telephone.  Assist clients in utilizing agency and community resources.  Gather, verify, evaluate, and enter social, financial, and medical information to determine the need/eligibility for assistance.  Prepare summaries of findings to determine eligibility for public assistance, ensure compliance with state/federal laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.  Authorize assistance based on circumstances and program requirements.  Maintain complete/accurate records of client eligibility and prepare reports.  Perform a variety of diverse tasks while continuing to maintain currency/accuracy of program requirements.  Ensure timely application processing to meet client needs and program mandates. Complete reinvestigations as required in policy, state and/or federal mandates to ensure continued eligibility.  Explain and interpret policy, procedures, and rules governing public assistance programs to clients and others. Inform clients of their rights/procedures for appeal and other legal rights related to income maintenance and public assistance.  Present pertinent information at conferences or appeals hearings. Determine public assistance overpayments and initiate repayment. Make alternate application arrangements for those seeking benefit assistance that are unable to travel to establish initial/continuing eligibility.  Refer families, children, adults, or aged receiving assistance to resources, as necessary. Perform work within the limits of established state and federal laws, and agency policy and procedures. 

Minimum Qualifications: Four or more years of experience in areas requiring extensive customer interaction which includes working with, or management of, business or employee financial records, sales, marketing, management, direct consumer or public contact, and/or customer service functions; and possession of a high school diploma/GED certificate.  Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university may substitute year-for-year for experience at a rate of 30 earned credit hours for one year.

OR

Four or more years of clerical experience (e.g., General Office Assistant, Office Support Assistant, etc.) in income maintenance or child support activities with the Missouri Department of Social Services

OR

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.  Qualifying experience may substitute year-for-year for deficiencies in the required education.
