Jefferson City - Today, Judith Ann Bland of Shannon County was recognized by Governor Matt Blunt and Department of Social Services Director, K. Gary Sherman, on the lawn of the State Capitol in Jefferson City. The awards presentation was the culmination of State Employee Recognition Day.
“The best ideas come from the employees working inside the system day-in and day-out,” said Director Sherman. “Ms. Bland deserves this ward for fixing an inefficiency that was irritating to her co-workers.”
Ms. Bland received the Missouri Relies on Everyone (MoRE) award. MoRE is Missouri’s Sate Employee Suggestions System. This employee driven system operates on the principle that state employees can uniquely identify opportunities to reduce cost, increase efficiency and improve service in government.
Ms. Bland was recognized for a winning suggestion for the Family Assistance Management Information System (FAMIS). There are a large number of income expense codes and the process of selecting the correct code could be very frustrating for workers. Ms. Bland suggested a way to streamline the process and make the correct coding selections more efficient. This limited the complexity of coding and the frustration of her co-workers.
“Ms. Bland provided the common sense solution necessary to make the system better for new and old employees alike,” said Janel Luck, Director of the Family Support Division. “Her innovation has made the system easier to use and more effective.”
