Ruby Daniel Recognized by Governor Blunt
with Shining Star and Longevity Awards

Jefferson City - Today, Ms. Ruby Daniel of Richmond, Missouri was recognized by Governor Matt Blunt and Director of the Department of Social Services, K. Gary Sherman, on the lawn of the State Capitol in Jefferson City. The awards presentation was the culmination of State Employee Recognition Day.

“Ruby Daniel exemplifies the most positive qualities of the Department’s employees,” said Director Sherman. “She has brought loyalty, effectiveness and a cheerful disposition to the Ray County Office for fifty years.”

Ms. Daniel will receive the Shining Star Award in recognition of her work with the Missouri Valley Community Action Agency. The Agency recently honored Ms. Daniel for her dedication to her job, her constant positive demeanor and for going the extra mile to make customers feel welcome. The Shining Star Award is given for astounding contributions by a state employee for local, state, national or international efforts, contributions or achievements.

“Ruby Daniel is the first face you see when you enter the Ray County Office and the last face you see when you leave,” said Janel Luck, Director of the Family Support Division. “The Missouri Valley Community Action Agency recognized her for having the grace and kindness necessary to remember your name, your family and your problems. I am pleased to see such a distinguished award go to someone so deserving.”

Ms. Daniel also received the Longevity Award for serving in the Ray County Office of the Family Support Division for what will be fifty years in August. After graduating as valedictorian of her Hardin High School Class, Ms. Daniel began work at, what was then known as, the Ray County Division of Welfare on August 4th, 1954. She worked there until the birth of her son and, after two years absence, began work again in 1961.

In addition to her award winning efforts at the Family Support Division, Ms. Daniel is a very active member of the Richmond First Church of God where she has been secretary of the Sunday School and the Church for many years. Ms. Daniel’s family includes her son, Philip Daniel, his wife Lori and their two children Kevin, age 15, and Emily, age 12. They reside in Lee's Summit, Missouri.
