Jefferson City – Gov. Matt Blunt and Department of Social Services Director Deborah Scott today commended employees along the I-44 corridor and in the state’s emergency operations center for their unwavering commitment to meet the needs of others in the wake of recent winter storms.
“I commend Director Scott and her department on an outstanding job assisting Missourians in their time of need,” Gov. Matt Blunt said. “I have been overwhelmed by the response from Missourians pulling together to help friends, neighbors and strangers deal with the aftermath of these ice storms.”
“The power outages and storm damage greatly impacted large numbers of people along the I-44 corridor,” Scott said. “Our local managers and staffs responded in amazing fashion working long hours to assist people in need while still trying to manage their personal situations. I am touched by their dedication and community service."
Employees of the Family Support and Children’s Divisions helped open and staff many local shelters - checking people in, assisting with meals and cleaning shelter facilities, as well as maintaining office operations. Many employees went door to door searching for people who needed help.
“Employees worked night and day in shifts providing reassurance and support for those most affected by the storm. These individuals have displayed the kind of commitment reflective of the goals of our department,” Scott said. “They were genuinely concerned with the well-being of the people in their communities – I am extremely grateful and proud of the contribution our employees have made to helping families survive and recover from this disaster.”
